Abuja - With the South Africa 2010 World Cup qualifiers just weeks away, the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) yesterday failed to appoint a substantive coach for the Super Eagles despite interviewing some candidates such as Stephen Keshi, Sunday Oliseh, and Samson Siasia, for the job but rather, the association named former coach of Abiola Babes and BCC Lions of Gboko, James Peters, the Super Eagles interim coach for one month.
Many Nigerians have expressed surprise and disgust at Peters’ choice in whatever capacity. They believe the NFA has a hidden agenda by refusing to name one of the interviewed candidates.

Ghana - The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) on Tuesday has purportedly faxed a notice of dismissal on coach Berti Vogts after being forced to backpedal on announcing his immediate dismissal, according to news sources from KickOffNigeria.com.
NFA officials kept journalists waiting for over four hours for a press conference at the Alisa Hotel where Berti’s dismissal was expected to be announced, only for a board member, Mohammed Ladan to read out a brief statement dissociating the FA from reports that Vogts had been sacked.

Ghana - The Super Eagles of Nigeria may be in deep trouble if they don’t get their act together in their next match against Mali. This is a do-or-die affair after losing 0-1 to Cote d’Ivoire in their opening match of the Nations Cup.
The Eagles had yesterday lost their first match in the ongoing African Cup of Nations taking place in Ghana, to the match favorite Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire, 0-1. The only goal of the match was scored brilliantly in 66th minute by Chelsea striker, Salomon Kalou, through a lone effort. The Ivoirien striker dribbled his way into the Nigerian box, before unleashing a goal past Nigerian Keeper, Austin Ejide.
