Obasanjo - Atiku
Abeokuta - Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his estranged deputy, Alhaji Abubarkar Atiku, met closed door at Obasanjo’s Hilltop Mansion in Abeokuta on Monday with the former president saying that erstwhile political office holders needed to intervene in the current political situation in the country.
Obasanjo, who only fell short of flashing a red card at the President Umaru Yar’Adua-led Peoples Democratic Party government, spoke when he received his former deputy and political adversary, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in his Hilltop Mansion residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Abuja - The National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ended yesterday in Abuja with a decision to throw open the controversial chairmanship of the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT), currently held by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The PDP NEC also resolved to revert to the 2001 constitution of the party, which made the BOT position purely advisory. In its recommendation after the review of the Ekwueme Committee report, the Mohammed Harilu Bello committee had faulted the 2006 review of the party’s constitution as it relates to Article 12.77 to the effect that the BoT chairman must be former president of the country produced by the party. The review committee had described this as undemocratic and therefore recommended a reversal to the previous provision, Which it said should begin immediately.
Akure - The Labour Party governorship candidate in the April 14 election in Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has been declared the lawful winner of the election by the Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Akure, the Ondo State capital, thereby nullifying the election of PDP candidate, and current occupier of the state governement house, Dr Olusegun Agagu.
But in a swift reaction to the verdict Dr Agagu told newsmen in Akure yesterday that he accepted the judgment but would proceed to the Appeal Court as required by the Constitution.
Abuja - There are strong indications that the reported imminent change in the executive cabinet of Nigerian President Umaru Yar’Adua will see the controversial Attorney General and Minister of (In)Justice, Chief Michael Kaase Aondoakaa (SAN) saying goodbye to his job. The cabinet shake-up may also not come until the national convention of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) slated for March 8, provided it is not temporarily halted by an Abuja High Court which is looking into a suit seeking to stop it.
Ota - FORMER President Olusegun Obasanjo and Peoples Democratic party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BOT) chairman on Saturday in Ota publicly declared that “inasmuch as Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu’s kind of politics brings results, I will continue to be his political disciple.”
Chief Obasanjo made the declaration shortly after a closed door meeting he had with the Ibadan-born politician, Oyo Sate deputy governor, Alhaji Taofeek Arapaja, Senator Gbenga Babalola, Senator Teslim Folarin, Gen. Raji Rasaki, Azeem Gbolarunmi and the Lagos State executive committee of the party led by the former deputy national chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George.
