Abuja - The National Universities Commission (NUC) has announced the blacklisting of five additional “fake” universities bringing to a total of 15 of such this year alone, so far closed and operating illegally, in the Nigeria.
The blacklisted schools are Blacksmith University, Awka, St Paul University College, Awka, both in Anambra State; and, Rev. D.O. Ockiya College of Theology and Management Sciences, Ogbia, Bayelsa State.
Others are University of Applied Science and Management, Port Novo, Republic of Benin; University of Industry, Yaba, Lagos.
According to a release in Abuja, the Executive Secretary, NUC, Prof Julius Okojie, warned parents and students against patronizing such schools.

Akure (Ondo) - A principal expert witness of Ondo State Governor, Chief Olusegun Agagu, who claims to be a professor of computer science at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), could not download information from a website during cross-examination at the election petitions tribunal in Akure by the counsel to the Labor Party governorship candidate, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.
The witness, Prof. Emmanuel Adegbeyeni, told the Justice Garba Nabaruma-led tribunal that he was the first doctorate degree holder in computer science in Black Africa.

Sango Ota - Covenant University chancellor and Presiding Bishop of the Winners Chapel Assembly, Dr. David Oyedepo, has warned of great consequences if the country continues to produce graduates without employment opportunities as there are no jobs for them after graduation, a situation which poses serious threat to the country’s corporate existence.
According to the President of David Oyedepo Ministries (DOMI), “We are producing graduates and there are no jobs for them. The curriculum is overdue for change all over the world. There is a glut of graduates everywhere”, he noted.

Onitsha - Nigeria, and indeed the world, has lost a gem and a mathematician, Emeritus Professor Chike Ediozien Umuezei Obi, who died yesterday, at age 87 years. The professor was one of the finest and first generation of Nigerian Mathematicians. He had been battling with a long time illness before passing on in his home town of Onitsha yesterday. Professor Obi with James Ezeilo and Adegoke Olubunmo pioneered modern Mathematics research in Nigeria.
Hundreds of Nigerians and non-Nigerians alike have drunk from their fountain of knowledge. He taught for many years mainly at the University of Lagos when he was made Emeritus Professor in 1985. He was also a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Sciences.

Lagos - A 17-year old student from Lagos State, Henry Akahara, who emerged the overall winner in a debate organized by the United Kingdom has been honored by Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola who received him in his office yesterday.
Master Akahara, is an SSS III student of Government Senior College, Surulere.
In recognition of what the governor described as honor to his fatherland, Governor Fashola has announced a scholarship for young Henry up to the university level any where in the world.
The governor stated that Henry’s performance bore testimony to the fact that the state public schools were doing very well and that resources pumped into them by government are being justified.
