Abuja - Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his deputy, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, failed to appear before the House of Representatives’ Committee probing the power sector with Chief Obasanjo in his usual self, sparingly showing his disgust with the committee chairman for sending an invitation to a probe panel that was signed on the latter’s behalf.
The invitation letter had been signed by “one Sahmed” (in Obasanjo’s words), instead of the Speaker or the Clerk of the National Assembly, as protocol demands. The former president also objected to the “disregard” for his age and position, and wondered why a letter dated May 3, 2008 only got to him six days later.

Abuja - In a nationally televised ruling, the presidential election tribunal sitting in Abuja has dismissed the opposition petitions asking that President Umaru Yar’Adua’s and Jonathan Goodluck’s election last year April, be annulled.
But Judge Abdulkadir Abubakar Jega said both former presidential candidates of the AD and ANPP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Gen Muhammodu Buhari respectively, had failed to prove that violations of the electoral law were substantial enough to invalidate the election result.
The opposition candidates have immediately signified their intention of appealing at the Supreme Court, where the final decision is likely to be decided.
Security has been tight in the capital, Abuja, in the run-up to the ruling.
