Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, Executive Governor of Oyo StateIbadan - Following the death of Ibadan Political bigwig and PDP Godfather, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is gunning after the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala for alleged corruption and embezzlement of State money.

The EFCC has alleged that Governor Alao-Akala used two book publishing companies and another firm to plunder over N1bn belonging to the state between January and December 2006. It also accused him of abusing his office during the 11 months he first spent as governor of the state.

Ibadan - As predicted by many, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State has began to witness the first wave of crime after the passing away of Chief Lamidi Adedibu, the man who literarily controls the security and violence in the Stae capital. Robbers went on rampage in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Monday night, snatching the official vehicle of the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Deborah Oyelade.

The incident, which happened around 8.00pm, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in charge of the state command, Miss Olabisi Okuwobi, on Tuesday, was carried out by five armed men.

The sub-text is the hope that there can now be some peace in Oyo state politics. Adedibu intervened in Oyo state and Nigerian politics in the last few years in a rather spectacular manner, wielding power, illegally and recklessly, with the ardour of a warlord. But no one should be tempted to think that this man’s departure will mark the end of the politics of thuggery, rigging and violence.

Ibadan - The former strongman of Ibadan politics, Chief Lamidi Adedibu, was committed to mother earth at exactly 11.35 a.m, yesterday, at his Molete, Ibadan residence, where for years he installed and pulled down governors and politicians.

It was a day the ancient city of Ibadan stood still. It was also a day Alhaji Lateef Akinsola,  known as Tokyo, Adedibu’s die-hard loyalist and NURTW State Chairman directed commercial buses, taxis and commercial motorcyclists (Okada) to withdraw their services between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. in honour of the late politician.

Late Chief Lamidi AdedibuIbadan - Self-styled strongman of Ibadan politics and a leading figure in the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Lamidi Ariyibi Adedibu on Wednesday passed on at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.

He died at 3.47 pm, some 40 minutes after he was rushed to the hospital. Before his eventual passage, the octogenarian was rumoured to be seriously ill, though he often denied it. The late Adedibu had for sometime now battled the undisclosed ailment before he eventually succumbed on Wednesday. He is to be buried on Thursday according to Islamic rites.
