Brig.Gen David Mark(rtd), Nigeria’s Senate PresidentMarkudi - Apprehension has gripped the top hierarchy of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Court of Appeal, Jos, Plateau State, prepares to deliver judgment on Tuesday on the appeal by the President of the Senate, Mr. David Mark, against the nullification of his election by the Election Petitions Tribunal in Makurdi, Benue State.

There are strong indications that the ruling party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may have commenced a search for a possible replacement for Mark in case the court affirms the February 23, 2008 verdict by the tribunal.

Alade Aromire, popular Nigerian actor, is dead

Late Alade AromireLagos - The curtain fell suddenly, finally, on one of the leading lights and pioneer of Yoruba home video industry, Muyideen Alade Aromire. Aromire was the first Nigerian to own a vernacular pay television channel, Yotomi TV.

He died on Friday night at the Soleye Hospital, Ikeja, after he was reportedly hit by a trailer along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway. Aromire was said to be returning from the site of his new house along the expressway, which he had planned to move into on July 15.

419 - American connive with Nigerians to defraud U.S Citizens of $2.1

In what can be described as one of the largest Advanced Fee Fraud (419) bust, the U.S Postal Service agents have discovered counterfeit checks, lottery tickets, and e-Bay overpayment documents worth $2.1 billion while investigating a scam involving some Nigerians and a US citizen.

PCworld.com reports that a cyber investigator with the US Postal Service, Chris Siouris, told a recent conference in Seattle, United States that the discovery was made when the agency sent 15 postal investigators to Lagos on a three-month undercover operation.

Washington State Attorney-General, Rob McKenna, who also spoke at the conference said they were pushing for ways to better educate Internet users to avoid e-mail scams.

The sub-text is the hope that there can now be some peace in Oyo state politics. Adedibu intervened in Oyo state and Nigerian politics in the last few years in a rather spectacular manner, wielding power, illegally and recklessly, with the ardour of a warlord. But no one should be tempted to think that this man’s departure will mark the end of the politics of thuggery, rigging and violence.
