Afribank pays 50k per share dividend to shareholders

Abuja- Afribank Nigeria Plc has posted a Profit Before Tax (PBT) of N12.6 billion for the financial year ended March 2008.  It represented a 78 per cent increase over the PBT of the previous year which stood at N6.92 billion. It also declared a dividend of 50 kobo per share, totaling N5.06 billion.

Profit After tax (PAT) come to N10. 033 billion after setting aside N4.933 for taxation. Another N127,728 million was also set aside for minority interest, thereby leaving a balance of N9.905 billion as profit attributable to shareholders.

Nigeria bans importation of 10yr old tokunbos

Abuja - The Federal Government yesterday banned the importation of automobiles that are more than 10 years and foreign textiles like Hollandais and the English wax.

The prohibition is the highlight of the 2008-2012 Nigeria Customs and Excise Tariff Book, launched in Abuja. Government said the move would shore up trade and industrial growth.

Meanwhile, the Director-General, Bureau of Public Enterprises,  Mrs. Irene Chigbue, yesterday, in Abuja said all the funds realized from the sale of public enterprises since 1999 were still intact.

Breaking News: Yinka Craig passes on at 60

Late Mr. Olayinka Babasanya CraigMinnesota (USA) - After a two-year battle with cancer, ace broadcaster and sports journalist, Mr. Yinka Craig, has passed on at the age of 60.

A statement posted to his website by one of his sons, Lamide, said Craig died at 6am on Tuesday at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, United States.

The statement reads, “It is with a heavy heart, and joy at God’s perfect will that I announce the passing on to glory of my father, teacher, mentor and friend, Mr. Olayinka Babasanya Craig, who went to be with the Lord at 6.00am this (Tuesday) morning.

Yar’Adua back with a bang, sacks Kingibe as SGF

President Musa Yar'AduaAbuja - President Umaru Yar’Adua made his first public appearance in 17 days at the Presidential Villa, Abuja to decorate the new Chief of Defence Staff and the Service Chiefs, thereafter sacking the revered Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Baba Gana Kingibe.

Kingibe’s replacement, outgoing Defense Minister, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, was immediately announced. A statement issued on behalf of President Yar’Adua by his chief information officer, Mr Adeniyi’s read:

“President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua today (yesterday) appointed Alhaji Mahmud Yayale Ahmed as Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
