Shola Ajani talks about Jobs in Nigeria - Part 2

Houston (USA) - If you have not read Part 1 of this interesting interview with this extra-ordinary Nigerian, Shola Ajani, making a difference in the lives of fellow Nigerians, Shola Ajani - Jobs in Nigeria Exhibitionby collaborating with the Crème de la Crème of Nigeria corporate world, to woo talented Nigerians professionals in diaspora, back home to work, then, you need to read that immediately.

During the first part of this interview, Shola gave some insights into how he was able to achieve the herculean task of bringing top Nigeria-based, multi-national firms like UBA, Shell, Rolls Royce, Schlumberger, GE Oil & Gas, Oando, Diamond Bank, Citigroup, FCMB, Skye Bank, Accenture, KPMG, and Nigerian Bottling Company, to mention just a few to Europe and other part of Africa, in an aggressive recruitment drive, which yielded fruits and employment for more than 1000 top, Nigerian professionals living in these continents.

Here is Part 2 of this eye-catching, inspirational interview, with a Nigerian, worthy to be emulated…

What are the benefits of participation in the Jobs in Nigeria Exhibition?
There are several benefits for exhibitors and candidates participating; companies have the opportunity to recruit highly skilled professionals, the exhibition is by invitation only; candidates have to pre-register before the exhibition. This enables us to create a database which we make available to companies to carry out a short list of candidates prior to the exhibition.

We offer relocation support to guaranteed hassle free relocation to Nigeria and ensure retention. We have event exclusively for experienced hires where the host company targets professionals in discipline of their choice. Participation and/or sponsorship of the exhibitions is a vital industry-positioning asset for any company they are seen as actively encouraging and supporting an initiative that reverses the brain drain.

Can we know a little about the role of the organizers in this event?
Nigeria Jobs Online actually started out in 2005 as recruitment advertising web portal, however the online advertising industry in Nigeria is still relatively in its infancy. On the other hand our website opened up Nigeria, if you like, to the whole world and we had demands from Nigerians abroad about career opportunities back home hence the launch of Jobs in Nigeria Exhibition. Nigeria Jobs Online is the parent brand of Jobs in Nigeria Exhibition, as a matter of fact; our Diaspora recruitment work has grown bigger than the parent brand hence the decision to run the exhibitions as an independent company within a group structure.

However Nigeria Jobs Online is essentially an online recruitment advertising medium where companies can leverage of speed, time, flexibility and reach as value added services using internet technology.

The vision of the company is essentially to offer employers a fast, affordable means of attracting quality candidates in their recruitment process and offer job applicants a quick and easy access to Job opportunities in the country.

The online portal and the exhibition models are simply tools to achieve our business model. We are essentially a recruitment consultancy.

What are the possible highlights of this exhibition?
We have interviews, assessments, seminars, presentations, exclusive meetings and Dinner Events and of course recruitment.

Is recruiting from abroad not just another fad?
I disagree with you. Leaving aside the quality of our recent graduates, there are skill set that are in limited supply locally. For example, our banks are introducing new risk management framework. The skill to achieve this is practically non-existent locally. In oil & Gas, there is a shortage of skill sub-sea Engineers. In the area of E-Commerce, IT Security, etc, we are still experiencing shortages. As far back as 2006, the present MD of Fidelity Bank, Reginald Ihejiahi, was one of those who saw the need to recruit abroad. It will simply be unsustainable if the need for international recruitment is invalid. There is also the issue of skills transfer. We stand to gain from the input of those trained abroad. Service delivery, for example, is very poor in Nigeria. The work culture is such that clients are treated with contempt although such attitude is changing in some work environments especially the Banks.

Also, Nigerians abroad want to come home, we get about 100 inquiries monthly, we have over 5000 professionals abroad on our database who are actively looking for work in Nigeria.

To be continued…Watch-out for Part 3 of the interview.
