KLM abolishes Transit Visa requirement for Nigerian travelers
Lagos- KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, has announced that Nigerians will no longer be required to obtain transit visas on KLM flights from Nigeria to major destination in the world including United Kingdom (UK), United States of America (USA), Canada, Ireland, Switzerland, and Japan when traveling via Amsterdam Schipol Airport.
This welcome development was made known by the Marketing Manager, KLM Nigeria, Frank de Koster, who confirmed that Nigerians do not need transit-visa anymore when flying KLM, adding that apart from saving time, this will also save some $100 on visa-fee. While saying most KLM passengers have their final destination beyond Amsterdam in Europe, North America and Asia Koster said it was important therefore to offer passengers a smooth transfer. Amsterdam Schipol Airport is consistently rated as one of the best airports in the world and the abolition of the transit-visa will certainly improve the position of Amsterdam as the preferred airport. Meanwhile, KLM and its partner, Northwest Airlines, have continued to increase their network to North America both from Amsterdam Schipol Airport and also with new direct flight from London Heathrow to the USA.
From Amsterdam Schipol Airport, the two airlines will offer five new destinations this summer of which the daily service to Dallas Fort-Worth and the daily service to Portland are the most relevant for the Nigerian market. Under the development, Nigerian passengers can now combine a visit to both the UK and the USA in one trip by making use of the direct Northwest Airlines/KLM flights between London and the USA.
Airport Transit Visa (ATV) will continue to be applicable to all other destinations until further notice. This information is also available on the KLM website.
