Iyabo Obsanjo-Bello in fresh trouble over M. Schneider
Abuja - The Code of Conduct Bureau has quizzed the Chairman of Senate Committee on Health and former President Obasanjo’s daughter, Mrs. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, for allegedly presenting herself as Mrs. Damilola Akinlawon while on the board of the M. Schneider Energy Nigeria Limited.
According to a reliable source, Obasanjo-Bello did not risk public humiliation and embarrassment this time and promptly reported at the Bureau’s office in Abuja last Wednesday, May 28, 2008.
The petition which was dated August 30, 2007 was submitted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission but the EFCC referred it to the CCB.
The petition, a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent on Wednesday is titled, ‘Complaint Against Senator Mrs. Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello.’
The petition reads, “You may recall that your commission in 2006 conducted an investigation involving directors of M. Schneider Energy Nigeria Ltd. The underlying dispute culminated in our being frustrated out of Nigeria after investing in excess of One Million Euros.
“This resulted in litigation in different jurisdictions. One of such proceedings will be before the International Arbitration Court of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris, France on September 3 and 4, 2007.
“Kindly find forwarded herewith copy of our pleadings with relevant exhibits. Contained therein are allegations of a fraudulent, corrupt and criminal nature involving Senator (Mrs.) Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello (alias Mrs. Damilola Akinlawon) then serving as a Commissioner with the Ogun State Government and which concealment of her identity, in our view, was driven by the sole consideration of shielding her father, the(then) former President of Nigeria, from being perceived as having breached relevant laws in the award of power projects indirectly to her daughter.
“Regrettably, the hearing has the potential of placing the Federal Government in bad light in the broadest domains. We would therefore be grateful, without prejudice to the judicial process, if you would kindly cause your commission to investigate same with a view to ascertaining whether your enabling laws or any other related Nigerian laws were broken by Obasanjo-Bello acting either for herself or on behalf of the then President.”
