UBA introduces dual currency debit card that can be used as US dollar and Naira

Lagos - The United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA) has announced the introduction of a UBA Dual Currency Debit Card, which is issued in two currencies— Naira and US dollars. The card is usable at domestic and international locations.  This is coming on the hills of a financial services partnership agreement with Arsenal FC of England.

In a statement announcing the introduction of the card as instrument in the Nigerian money market, UBA said: “The chip and a PIN driven card is issued by the bank on the platform of Visa international platform and provides for maximum protection and security.”

The introduction of the UBA Dual Debit card is predicated on the desire by the bank to provide a convenient means for customers to have access to dual currencies without carrying multiple cards.

“This is the best thing that has happened to customers in recent times as they do not need to carry multiple cards for different purposes especially when they travel out of the country, ” said Executive Director, Global Products and Segment Banking, Mrs. Angela Nwabuoku.

“UBA Dual Currency Card is accepted at more than 24 million shops and business locations which display the Visa acceptance sign in over 220 countries and at more than 900,000 ATM machines worldwide.”

The Dual Currency debit card has some special features embedded in it, differentiating it from a typical debit card.

Described as less card, more functionality, the special attributes or features include 100 per cent access to funds; Controlled spending; Real-time SMS transaction notification on customers account; a credit line that enables the customers apply for UBA finance/loan options suitable for their purposes.

According to the bank, other extra benefits inherent in the debit card are payment for goods and services over the internet, domestic account to account transfer, safe means of transactions, 24 hours account balance inquiries and online access and flexible and convenient use.

It will be recalled that UBA recently partnered with premiership giant, Arsenal FC of England on financial services that will allow UBA to create a co-branded Arsenal debit and credit card in the West African market.
