Abuja - The Nigeria Football Association (NFA) is set to name a substantive national coach to be assisted by two assistant coaches for the Super Eagles, on Thursday.
The nations soccer ruling body confirmed that it has chosen the new boss, but will not name him until contracts and budgets for the new team are finalised.
According to the NFA Chief Media Officer, Ademola Olajire, the coaches comprise of one chief coach, two assistant coaches, and one goal keeper coach/trainer.
Favorite to named chief coach is former Nigeria Nation coach, Shaibu Amodu, who qualified the Super Eagles for Japan/Korea 2002, but was sacked in favor of a foreign technical adviser before the competition. He is likely to be assisted by ex-Super Eagles striker, Daniel “The Bull” Amokachi and Fatai Amoo with Alloy Agu as goalkeeper coach.
It will be recalled that former front runner, Stephen Keshi could no longer wait on the NFA, after being interviewed, but took the job to coach the Malian National soccer team instead.
Nigeria begin their quest for a place at the World Cup in South Africa in 2010 at the end of May. The World Cup qualifying campaign doubles as the preliminaries for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations. The first game will be against the World Cup hosts South Africa in Abuja with follow up matches against Equatorial Guinea and Sierra Leone.
