Nigeria losses another giant, Former LASU VC, Jadesola Akande, dies at 67

Late Professor (Mrs) Jadesola AkandeLagos - Nigeria has lost another giant to the cold arms of death. Former Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, Prof. Jadesola Akande, has just passed away. The deceased, a lawyer, researcher and administrator, was 67.

One of her children, Dayo Debo-Akande, confirmed her passage at her Ikoyi, Lagos residence on Tuesday.

This will be the second death of a major icon in the Nigerian history, following the passing away of Pa Abraham Adesanya some days earlier.

A statement released by her immediate family confirmed the passing away of the administrator, lawyer, researcher who was 67 years old.

Gani is not dead - Associates

Lagos - Top associates and friends of Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) have dispelled rumors of the death of the legal icon and human rights activist describing those spreading the rumor as wicked.

Gani had last week celebrated his 70th birthday amidst accolades and eulogies in his honor, though he was absent at programs held in his honour due to his ill health.

The Head of Chambers at Gani’s law firm, Mr. Adindu Ugwuzor, described the rumors as a complete lie. He said his boss still gave the vote of thank at a lecture organized in his honor on Monday by the Campaign for Democracy (CD).

Nigeria Bar Association sues British Airways

Lagos - The Nigerian Bar Association has dragged the British Airways before the Federal High Court in Lagos, following the maltreatment of its Nigerian passenger, Mr Ayo Omotade.

In a motion ex-parte jointly filed by Omotade, NBA and its President, Mr Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), the plaintiffs are seeking the leave of the court to enforce Omotade‘s human rights against the BA.

Omotade, a Nigerian citizen and an information technology consultant based in Chatham, Kent, United Kingdom, was one of the Nigerian passengers on the BA’s flight.

Bishop Oyedepo warns against Nigeria doom

Bishop David OyedepoSango Ota - Covenant University chancellor and Presiding Bishop of the Winners Chapel Assembly, Dr. David Oyedepo, has warned of great consequences if the country continues to produce graduates without employment opportunities as there are no jobs for them after graduation, a situation which poses serious threat to the country’s corporate existence.

According to the President of David Oyedepo Ministries (DOMI), “We are producing graduates and there are no jobs for them. The curriculum is overdue for change all over the world.  There is a glut of graduates everywhere”, he noted.

Pa Abraham Adesanya, Afenifere leader passes on, at 85

Late Pa Abraham AdesanyaLagos - Frontline Octogenarian, Nationalist and Leader of the Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Egbe Afenifere, Pa Abraham Adesanya, died yesterday peacefully at an old age of 85, around 12:30 pm in his Apapa, Lagos residence after having his breakfast.

Before his death, Adesanya had withdrawn from public functions for about four years now as a result of illness associated with old age. Sources said the late Afenifere leader did not betray any sign that his death was due, as he woke up yesterday as he was said to be fine and even cracked jokes with family members.
