Breaking News: RCCG begin search for Adeboye’s successor

RCCG General Overseer, Pastor E.A. AdeboyeSango Ota - General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of Nigeria, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, on Thursday night astounded critics of the church when he publicly announced that the church had begun the ultimate search for his own successor.

Lately, there had been speculations as to what becomes of the octopodal RCCG when the erstwhile university lecturer who took the church from its obscurity to the enviable height it enjoys today, enventually passed on.

While some persons had gone spiritual by liking Pastor Adeboye to biblical Enoch who was taken away without tasting death, arguing that in that situation the church might witness some rumblings which might shake it to its foundation.

Others who had been ardent followers of quintessential Pastor Adeboye have taken cursory look at the structure in place and feared that there is just no person with the temerity of Pastor Adeboye who can hold the church together.

Some say that many who today pose as faithful disciples of Pastor Adeboye have actually begun serious lobby to succeed the man and if their ambition fails, they are prepared to pack their bags and baggages for other endeavours.

Pastor Adeboye, himself, did not help matters when he declared some time ago that his successor may not have been born yet.

Which was why his ecquivocations at the opeining session of the just concluded special Holy Ghost Service to mark his 66th birthday came to many as a huge surprise.

Pastor Adeboye turned 66 on Sunday, March 2 and to mark the occasion, the church had packaged a special 3-day programme with a theme, ‘Moving up higher.’ Close watchers of  Pastor Adeboye and the RCCG will readily recal that the history of monthly Holy Ghost Service and later the annual Holy Gost Congress is tied to the G.O.’s birthday.

At the opening session on Thursday night, the mammot crowd that turned out at the Congress Arena were stunned when the 66-year old GO emerged just after mid night to declare openly that the search for a successor had actually begun.

Giving reasons for the introduction of zones for the special programme at which each zone was given 40 minutes to minister in Praise and worship as well as minister in Word.
