NFA appoints James Peters as interim Eagles coach

Coach James PetersAbuja - With the South Africa 2010 World Cup qualifiers just weeks away, the Nigeria Football Association (NFA) yesterday failed to appoint a substantive coach for the Super Eagles despite interviewing some candidates such as Stephen Keshi, Sunday Oliseh, and Samson Siasia, for the job but rather, the association named former coach of Abiola Babes and BCC Lions of Gboko, James Peters, the Super Eagles interim coach for one month.

Many Nigerians have expressed surprise and disgust at Peters’ choice in whatever capacity. They believe the NFA has a hidden agenda by refusing to name one of the interviewed candidates.

After hours of meeting, NFA Technical Committee Chairman, Taiwo Ogunjobi, read out a statement that “the technical committee’s report is not ready and James Peters, assistant secretary general (technical) in the NFA will, in the interim, oversee matters of the national senior team.”

Ogunjobi said that Peters would oversee the Eagles for about a month, when a substantive coach is expected to be picked from the four recommended to the board by its technical committee. The NFA, however, named coaches for the Under-17 and Under-20 national teams.
