President Musa Yar'aduaAbuja - In a nationally televised ruling, the presidential election tribunal sitting in Abuja has dismissed the opposition petitions asking that President Umaru Yar’Adua’s and Jonathan Goodluck’s election last year April, be annulled.

But Judge Abdulkadir Abubakar Jega said both former presidential candidates of the AD and ANPP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Gen Muhammodu Buhari respectively, had failed to prove that violations of the electoral law were substantial enough to invalidate the election result.

The opposition candidates have immediately signified their intention of appealing at the Supreme Court, where the final decision is likely to be decided.

Security has been tight in the capital, Abuja, in the run-up to the ruling.
