Bishop David OyedepoSango Ota - Faith Tabernacle makes Guinness Book of Records.

It was celebration time yesterday at Faith Tabernacle, the headquarters of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (aka Winners’ Chapel) in Ota, Ogun State, as its listing in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s largest church building was disclosed to the congregation.

The list, which was done in January 24, 2008, was announced by Bishop David Oyedepo, the presiding bishop of the church.

Oyedepo, who announced this yesterday, said it was gratifying that the church had attracted positive image to Nigeria through its inclusion in the famous book.

The 50,000-seat church auditorium, which took 12 months to be constructed, was dedicated in September 18, 1999 under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was represented at the event by erstwhile Minister of Information and National Orientation, Prof. Jerry Gana.

With the development, the church has become the first Nigerian structure to enter into the Guinness Book of Records. Before now, the family of renowned accountant, Senator David Dafinone, had blazed the trail as it entered the Guinness Book as the family with highest number of accountants in the world. All the six Dafinones are accountants.

Beside the auditorium, the tabernacle has 25 offices, conveniences and other facilities for the worshippers’ use. The hall is particularly remarkable for its architectural masterpiece as there are no pillars within it to hold the gallery.

Since its commissioning, the tabernacle has become a spiritual home to the Christian community worldwide. Every year, Christians from across the world gather at the church for Shiloh, a weekly spiritual renewal exercise.

Speaking on the listing, Oyedepo said that it was a proof of the faithfulness of God, adding that it was a thing of joy that a church in Nigeria had achieved the feat.

He said: “It is humbling that in the whole of the world, the largest church building is found in this corner of the earth. God is faithful. It is gratifying that out of Africa, out of Nigeria and from this obscured corner of the earth, a global church has emerged. This is an indication that something good can come out of Nigeria”.

Referring to the theme of the year for the church, “On the Eagle’s Wing”, Oyedepo said that naming of the church, the notable book, was a confirmation that the flight has taken off.

He said: “The flight has started. This is a celebration of the faithfulness of God. God has not failed in any single thing He said to me at the take off this church”.

This is the LORD’s doing and is marvellous in our sight, yet i am fully persuaded that “eyes have not seen nor ears heard neither has it entered into the conception of any man what still has in stock to them that are passionately in love with HIM”.

Sing praise to the LORD, you Saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His Holy Name. To GOD Almighty be the praise for this great grace and typification of His glory upon Papa, Bishop Oyedepo. I am happy that the this honour has been done by the LORD God to His Church here in Africa and specifically in Nigeria. This gives me hope that labour of our fathers like Papa Bishop Oyedepo has brought this honour to the church not only in Nigeria but Africa. The hope for the next revival in the world that will coincide with the coming of Our Lord Christ Jesus and make the church to take its dominion and cause to church to receive it recognition in the World resides in Africa and has been started by the Winners Chapel International. Papa God bless you and keep on using to mentor us both far and near in Jesus Name.
