Accra - The once “Super” Eagles of Nigeria has been knocked out of the ongoing African Nations Cup taking place in Ghana, by the host nation.
Final score was 2 - 1 in favor of the Black Stars of Ghana who played 10 men for the better part of the second half of the match after having lost their skipper, John Mensah for a professional foul as he clubs the heels of Odemwingie during a goal bound move by the Nigerian striker.
Nigeria had every opportunity to win the match, but they proved that they were not worthy of qualifying for the semi-finals after having narrowly qualified for the quarter finals.
The Eagles opened scoring in the 35 minutes of the first half through a penalty (spot) kick taken by Yakubu Aiyegbeni after the Everton striker was brought down by Owusu during a goal bound move.
Ghana deservedly equalized in the very last minute of of the first half through a glancing header by Chelsea star, Emmanuel Essien, past goal keeper Austin Ejide, with the Nigerians almost certainly thinking the first half ws over.
The die was cast for 10-man Black stars of Ghana, eight minutes to go in the match when Junior Agogo planted a shot into the Nigerian goal from a low cross by Sulley Muntari.
The fate of German Coach Berti Vogts is now habging on a rope if history is anything to go by. Every Nigerian Coach that has failed to win perform has always certainly been given the boot. One awaits what is left of Vogts.
The Eagles definitely deserved to be eliminated as they did not show at any point during this tournament that they are true champion contenders.
