Africa Nations Cup: Super Eagles quest to redeem lost glory

Africa Nations Cup - Ghana 2008Ghana - The Super Eagles of Nigeria led by Nwankwo Kanu, will today attempt to redeem her fading glory as they meet with the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire, in what soccer pundits have termed the “glamour match” of the 26th Africa Cup of Nations that already kicked off in Ghana.

The Eagles were unlucky in their last match with the Ivorians, as they lost 0-1 during that encounter. So a lot is at stake today when the two face off with each other. Nigeria has won the Nations Cup two times, at home in Nigeria in 1980 and in Tunisia, 1994. Cote d’Ivoire has won it once, in Senegal 1992.

The Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire is being led by Chelsea prolific international striker and one of the world’s best players, Didier Drogba as well as Salomon Kalou also of Chelsea, while the Super Eagles have a terrific strike force in Obafemi Martins, Chelsea whiz kid, Jon Obi Mikel, and ofcourse unpredictable Nwankwo Kanu.

See what Drogba is capable of doing in this short video clip:

The opening match between the host country, Ghana and Guinea, ended 2-1 in favor of the Black Stars of Ghana.
