London - Individuals inviting anyone to the United Kingdom, may have to pay a cash bond as a guarantee that such people will go back to their home countries after the expiration of their tourist visa, if a new British immigration plan is passed by House of Commons.
Under the proposal, families would have to pay a cash bond to ensure that visitors left the country, while the standard six-month tourist visa would be cut in half, to three months.
The British Immigration Minister Liam Byrne said that the bond would not be applied in every case, but only where it was considered there was a risk of visitors not going home. This according to him, will ensure “tougher checks abroad mean we keep risky people out…”
This move will likely generate a lot of hardship and possible protest from British Citizens who have non-british families such as Nigerians and Indians. The implication is that anyone inviting multiple people to Britain for social engagements, will have to pay a fortune per visitor. this bond is on top of the high fees currently being charged by Britain, for tourist visas.
The good news however, is that Britain will be opening up its doors for new class of immigrants, through the introduction of a new business and specialist visa — such as for artists visiting the country — and a visa for one-off events like the London Olympics in 2012.
