Ministers, FG Officials in N300bn secret bank scam

Abuja - The Minister of Finance, Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, has been instructed by the Upper legislative body, the Senate, to recover over N300 billion from his fellow Ministers, currently held in secret bank accounts.

The recovered “loot” according to the dismayed legislators must be added to the 2008 budget presented by President Musa Yar’Adua. The legislators were surprised that such funds were not captured in the 2007 budget ‘because they were buried in private bank accounts to yield interest for them [Ministers]’.

One will think that the next action is for the Attorney General to immediately look into this cases and prosecute all the officials that were involved in such a scam profiting from money that does not belong to them. alternatively, the EFCC and ICPC should go to action to show that there are indeed no “sacred cows” in Nigeria. The money should not only be recovered from this officials, but they should be asked to forfeit all interests accrued as a result of depositing such huge amount of money to the federal coffers.

This is another case of executive 419 at its best! War against executive corruption.
