Naijawire.comĀ - The US and UK are working behind the scene with Germany to convince Nigera’s president, Musa Yar’Adua, to retain “sacked” EFCC boss, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for at least one more year before being asked to go on compulsory training.
According to an unconfirmed reports, the US and UK believed that Germany will play a huge part in convincing president Yar’Adua, since the country is reponsible for his personal health care.
Though the American Embassy and the British High Commission have not issued any official statements to confirm or deny their intervention, speculations are that both countries were making moves to ensure that the one-year compulsory course for Ribadu was put on hold for at least one year.

Abuja - The Chairman of the Nigerian Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu (AIG) has been relieved of his position. Ribadu will proceed on a “mandatory” one year course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), even though his tenure as the commission’s Chairman was recently extended by the government of former president, Olusegun Obasanjo.

Naijawire.com (Abuja) - The Nigerian federal government is challenging a court of Appeal judgment that ordered former Federal Minister of Finance, Dr (Mrs) Okonjo-Iweala and former Federal Minister for External Affairs, Ambassador Olufemi Adeniji, to immediately refund a total N215million to the coffers of the Federal Government, being excess of salaries drawn by them while holding office.
The original case which was brought to the Appeal Courts by human rights activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN), focused on why the duo of Okonjo-Iweala and Adeniji were not only paid excessively above the constitutional recommended salaries for federal ministers, but also paid in foreign currencies in banks held overseas.

Vanguard (Lagos) - Subscribers to the last public offer (IPO/Stocks) by Oceanic International Bank PLC, will soon be smilling to the bank, following an impressive 170% increase in the bank’s financial base, largely attributed to the N222.48 billion fund raised in contrast to N37.67 billion available during the 2006 financial year.
According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr. Cecilia Ibru, the bank has therefore proposed a dividend of N1.02 as against 75k promised based on its 2007 Public Offer Prospectus, as a show of appreciation to investors.
