It should be no news that former Nigerian President Olusegun Aremu Obasanjo (OBJ) was not totally friendly with the academic community when he was at the nation’s helm of affairs. What is news is that he was recently rejected by the Senate Board of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as a nominee for the confirment of a honorary doctorate degree.

Nigerian Tribune (Abuja) - The shareholders of Union Bank PLC, one of Nigeria’s largest banks, have proposed that the bank raise a minimum of N500 billion, a necessary move owing to the depth of the market which had enabled other banks in the country raise fund exceeding their targets.
While full details are not readily available, the shareholders have authorised the bank to raise additional capital by way of combined public offer, Global Deposit Receipt (GDR) and rights issue of 1,117,650,000 billion ordinary shares of 50 kobo each which shall be issued and allotted provisionally to existing shareholders and use any over-subscription to capitalise the excess fund and also allot additional shares to the extent that can be accommodated by the bank. Nigerian Police Force: A reason to be corrupt
November 29th, 2007, 9:43 am · No Comments
The Nigerian Police Force no doubt is one of the most corrupt police institution in the world… and there seems to be a justification for this - they also have one of the lowest wage structure.
A typical Police Constable currently earns a meagre N10,000 (less than $85USD) a month (compared to their counterparts in the British Metropolitan Police, whose basic salary ranges from £18,873 to £21,693 (see http://www.metpolicecareers.co.uk/default.asp?action=article&ID=38) while a Police
Superintendent earns about N40,000 (less than $337USD) a month, excluding accommodation allowance! This is not only unacceptable but a shame on our leadership. The FG spends millions of Naira every day on entertainment (see http://www.naijawire.com/2007/11/19/fg-budgets-n2.3million-daily-for-refreshment/) while legislators renovate single houses for N628 million and N500 million on broadcast contract (See http://www.tribune.com.ng/28112007/edit.html).
